Trust is enforced in the system, not asserted in a document
Why governance has to be structural, not procedural, in agentic AI, and what that means for the next decade of enterprise platforms.
Governance documents do not stop autonomous agents from doing the wrong thing. Reviews after the fact do not protect a regulator's confidence. The only governance that scales with agentic AI is governance enforced structurally, at the platform layer, in real time, on every action.
Every operating system in history, mainframes, client-server, mobile, cloud, eventually settled on three things: manage resources, enforce policy, run workloads. The agentic enterprise is no different. Without an OS layer, every deployment is a bespoke integration. Models are provisioned ad hoc. Governance is bolted on after the fact. Agents operate without consistent identity, permissions, or audit trails.
Governance cascades downward. Enterprise policies at the top constrain every layer below. Information flows upward, usage, cost, and audit feed dashboards for every role. No tier can escalate its own permissions. That is the operating model. The rest is plumbing.
